Dr. Adolf Strodtmann has a few translations of your smaller poems in his book "Amerikanische Anthologie" (Leipzig: Bibliograph. Institute). The late doctor did not, I am very sorry to say, give you a favorable introduction to the German public.—I recd Dr. Bucke's book and was greatly delighted with it.
I am at present very busy as I want to complete my critical history of American literature as soon as possible. In this book a whole chapter (about 20 printed pages) will be devoted to your poetry.
yal.00376.002_large.jpgI flattered myself with the hope of seeing you in the course of this summer, but it was not granted to me. If possible for me and agreeable to you I shall come to Camden before the winter sets in and spend a few hours there.
Yours very Truly Karl Knortz
