Sunday, December 1, 1889

9.30 A.M. Stopped in for an instant only, to leave with him the Sherman and Rolleston letters. Just up and Warren gone to get him hot water for washing. Said he woke "feeling very well"—and that his "days nowadays" were of "a better cast." Promised to send proof up to the house later in the day by Warren.

I saw Adler later on (he spoke in Philadelphia today) and he asked if W. would give him a word of introduction to John Burroughs. Weather rather cold, and W. "somewhat afraid to venture out in the chair."
