Harper's Statistical Gazetteer
(1855). In 1883, Whitman was
asked to compose a poem for the 333rd anniversary of the founding of
Santa Fe, NM. He responded with a letter that was published in the
Philadelphia Press
August 5, 1883. It
was reprinted in the section of
November
Boughs
(1888), entitled "The Spanish Element in Our
Nationality."
