March 25, 1868. John C. Gesman, Esq. Washington, D. C. Sir: I am directed by the Attorney General to say, in reply to your letter of the 24th instant, that it will depend entirely upon the legislation of Congress whether any additions will be made to the force of this office. If an increase shall be authorized, your application will be considered. Yours very respectfully, M. F. Pleasants, Chief Clerk.
