May 17, 1869.

Alfred Russell, Esq. 73 Griswold st.

Detroit, Mich.

Sir:

The Attorney General directs me to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 14th inst. and to say in reply that there is no document on file in this office charging you with "copperheadism," unless you consider a statement that you were an active and influential member of the "Johnson organization," to be of the same import.

Very Resp. yours,

M. F. Pleasants,

Ch. Clerk.
