September 30, 1869. Hon. John F. Dillon, Davenport, Iowa. Dear Sir: In reply to your letter of the 25th inst. I have the honor to inform you that all the papers to which it refers have been received, and are on file in this Department—the package by express arriving this morning. I can only properly add that your high judicial reputation has not been unknown to me—and that the application will receive the most careful and respectful consideration. Very truly yours, E. R.
