October 23, 1869.

John A. Wills, Esq.

Sir:

You are retained in behalf of the United States in suit No. 214 on the docket of the December Term 1868 of the Supreme Court of the United States entitled the United States appellants vs. Antonia Rocha, et al. Mr. Brent, of Baltimore will prepare a brief in aid of the brief of the United States, which you are expected to prepare. In the disposition of your time the Attorney General desires that suit No. 215, in which you are also retained, should take precedence. The transcripts of the record in both these cases have been handed to you, and it is very desirable that, if possible, the briefs be ready, and the cases argued when reached in their order.

Very respectfully,

W. A. Field,

Assistant Attorney Gen'l

retained in behalf of U. S. in certain Sup. Court cases.
