January 20, 1870. Hon. R. W. Taylor, Comptroller. Sir: In reply to your inquiry of this date, I have to inform you that Frank M. Pixley was appointed U. S. Attorney for the District of California, May 11th, 1869, in the recess of the Senate. The term of office of his predecessor, Mr. Lake, expired February 14th, 1869. Very respectfully yours, W. A.
