June 9, 1870. T. W. Egan, Esq. P. O. Box 5952, New York City. Sir: Your letter addressed to the President has been by him referred to me. The matter is not one of which the President can with propriety take any cognizance. If you have any application to make respecting the criminal charge against you, you should make it to the District Attorney, Judge Pierrepont. Very respectfully, E. R. Hoar, Attorney General.
