December 16, 1870. Barbour Lewis, Esq. Memphis, Tenn. Sir: You are hereby appointed an assistant to the U. S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, during the present term of the U. S. Court with a compensation at the rate of Two hundred and fifty dollars per month. You will please transmit to this Department, a copy of your official oath. Very respectfully, B. H.
