April 15, 1871. Mr. A. P. Hulse, San José, California. Sir: I have received your letter of the 3d instant. Mr. Sargent had previously transmitted the application of the Settlers Association, and the accompanying papers. I have referred the matter to the Department of the Interior, which has charge of public lands, and shall be governed by the wishes of that Department in the matter. Very respectfully, &c, A. T.
