March 31, 1871. Rev. John H. Hunter, Galveston, Texas. Sir: I have received your letter of the 19th instant. The subject of purchasing lands for public uses belongs entirely to Congress, and this Department has no control over it. Therefore I suggest that you lay your views before some member of Congress. Very respectfully, A. T. Ackerman, Attorney General.
