Oct. 28, 1871. S. M. Ashenfelter, Esq. U. S. Attorney, Santa Fé, New Mexico. Sir: I am directed by the Solicitor General and Acting Attorney General to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th instant, relative to the necessity of a law prohibiting the trading in stolen cattle by the Camanches of Texas and citizens of New Mexico, and to inform you that the subject will be presented to Congress at the ensuing session.
