Sept. 29, 1871. Hon. J. Hubley Ashton, Washington, D. C. Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 27th inst. transmitting the account, approved by you, of J. R. Beckwith, Esq. Attorney of the U. S. for the District of Louisiana, for services rendered at your request in the care of Tomasa Marin vs. The U.
