Aug. 29, 1871. Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell Secretary of the Treasury. Sir: In answer to your letter of the 8th instant, I herewith transmit to you a copy of the instructions of this Department to the District Attorney of Montana, in reference to the case of Andrew J. Davis, vs. L. D. Church, et al. Very respectfully, &c A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
