Editorial note: The name of this proposed poem, "Poem of Names," recalls the title phrasing used in the 1856 edition of Leaves of Grass. Edward Grier dates this manuscript to the 1850s, based on the handwriting (Notebooks and Unpublished Prose Manuscripts [New York: New York University Press, 1984], 4:1310).
