the brother of Thomas Harned, Whitman's close friend and one of his
literary executors. Horace Traubel dates the photo 1886 or
1887 and identifies Frank Harned as the photographer; Whitman
signed
one copy in June 1887. This and the following are the first
photos of Whitman in his home. Whitman
liked Harned, but did not care for his photographs: "I don't
know why--never do. I have feelings about things, nothing
more."
