Indents, spacing, etc.

Indents and tabs which are consistent throughout a document should not be encoded at all (do not use &nbsp; or <indent> to represent the way a work looks on the page.) If you have correctly and consistently marked the structure, a style sheet can apply to that structure the appropriate display features. For example, it can indent two spaces at the beginning of each line group, or indent seven spaces at the beginning of each <seg> except the first.
