                    opened his New York studio. Henry S. Saunders dates it 1862, and some copies are
                    dated by Whitman in 1863. In a letter to <tei:ref
                        target="https://whitmanarchive.org/criticism/current/encyclopedia/entry_48.html"
                        >William Michael Rossetti</tei:ref>, Whitman wrote, "I confess to myself a
                    perhaps capricious fondness for it" (<tei:ref
