Walt Whitman Esq
My dear Sir:

I ask you to excuse me for neglecting so long to answer your note. It came to my house instead of the office and was consequently overlooked. It was Mrs. J.1 who wanted something of you and she now asks me to write for your "Leaves of Grass"

Please send it and I will send the [price?] by return post.

Truly yours
D. Jardine
