A newspaper clipping of the poem "Mannahatta" on a larger page with
corrections and notes in Whitman's hand. This was the second poem that title that Whitman had published (the first "Mannahatta," which begins with the words "I was asking...," first appeared in the 1860 edition of
Leaves of Grass
). This particular poem was first published in the
New York Herald
on February 27, 1888 and was later included in the Deathbed edition of
Leaves
.
