7.20 P.M. W. on bed—a low light in room—but not asleep. Greeted me cordially: said he was "wearied." "I was out today—the carriage came again: we went along in the rain: but I do not think it hurt me." Had not written the check for Oldach. Said: "I should be cuffed for my forgetfulness."
I do not like W.'s inclination to lie down so much. The warmer weather is evidently playing on him. A reporter from the Press came while I was there. W. would not see him; advised me to go down and talk to him, which I did.
Did not potter about at all. W. expectant in regard to Bucke's coming tomorrow. Said he had written him [B.] today.
