Attorney General's Office. August 9, 1865. Robert Murray, Esq. U. S. Marshal, Southern Dist. N. Y. New York City. Sir: Your letter of the 7th instant to his Excellency the President, has been referred by him to me for action and answer. And in reply thereto, I hereby grant you leave of absence from the 20th inst. to the 20th October, 1865. I am sir, very respectfully, James Speed, Attorney General.
