Attorney General's Office. August 22, 1865. Hon. G. W. Brooks, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Sir: By direction of the Attorney General I transmit herewith a Commission appointing you to be Judge of the District Court of the United States for the District of North Carolina. I am also directed to request that you will send to this office, along with a copy of your official oath, a statement of the place of your birth for the Biennial Register.
