Attorney General's Office, April 9, 1866. To Caleb Baldwin, Esq. U. S. Attorney, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sir: You will find herewith a copy of a letter to Lieut. Gen. Grant. You will please investigate the matter, & if you find that the clerk of the court has been guilty of the disgraceful & dishonorable conduct with which he is charged, you will take such steps against him as are warranted by law.
