July 20, 1870. F. A. Simkins, Esq. Washington, D. C. Dear Sir: In answer to your application for a position as clerk in this Department, dated the 8th inst. I have to inform you that the clerkships under my control have either been filled or promised. Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
