Sir:
You are hereby employed to aid in the prosecution and collection of claims due the United States under the appropriation in the Act of July 15, 1870, entitled, "An Act making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the year ending June 30, 1871, and for other purposes." (16 Stat. p. 306.) This employment will begin on the first day of November, 1870, your compensation will be at the rate of one hundred and seventy five dollars per month. Except when otherwise directed by the Attorney General, you will act under the direction of the Solicitor of the Treasury.
