January 25, 1871 Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: I am directed by the President to request you to issue a Commission appointing Benjamin F. Tracy to be Attorney of The United States for the Eastern District of New York, agreeably to the enclosed resolution of the Senate. Very respectfully, &c, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
