Feb. 4, 1871.
Hon. Hamilton Fish,
Secretary of State.
Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 27th ultimo, enclosing a copy of a letter to you from J. Hubley Ashton, Esq. counsel for the United States before the Joint Commission for the adjustment of claims under
the Treaty with Mexico, in which he asks for copies of such correspondence and documents on the subject of the claims of Thomas Marin, as may be in this Department.
After careful search no papers relating to that subject have been found in this office—and I have informed Mr. Ashton accordingly.
Very respectfully,
A. T. Akerman,
Attorney General.
