VENTILATION.—

The large Lecture Room of the Cooper Institute, in New York, has some novel advantages for ventilation. A powerful fan, driven by steam-power, revolves in the bottom of a large shaft, and propels the fresh air through an immense tunnel, from whence it is conveyed through an augur hole to every seat in the apartment, and escapes through apertures in the ceiling. This secures a pure cool air in the warmest weather, and by a slight modification of the machinery, may be made to furnish heated air to the whole building.
