"SARTAROE."—

We have received from Messrs. Peterson of Philadelphia, a marked paper, containing a puff of "Sartaroe," the new work written by a Mr. Maitland,1 and of which a letter from Washington Irving has been forged in recommendation. We not space to insert the puff, but beg all of our readers who admire and approve forgery and rascality (and none else) to buy this work "Sartaroe," and thus reward the concoctor of the forgery, who doubtless has an interest in its sale.

Notes:

1. James Alexander Maitland (1827#8211;1883) was a British-born novelist who was associated with a number of newspapers in the United States, including the New-York Dispatch during the 1850s. [back]
