A great many persons argue, from the number of base ball matches which are reported in the papers, that there is a reviving love for physical exercise and development among the youth of our country. If so, it is very limited in its extent; for when a National Base Ball Convention was held, there were no delegates but from New York State, and adjacent parts of New Jersey—showing the game to be confined to the metropolis and its environs.
