[The propensity of doctors to]

☞The propensity of doctors to disagree and to blacken the reputations of rivals in the profession is well known. The Sunday Atlas1 in an article on Medical Ethics alludes to the free fights which take place at the Academy of Medicine every month—and of which the late squabble in relation to who killed Mr. Whitney is an example—and illustrates them as follows:

"There is an old story that a young ardent Milesian, who was about to make his first appearance at Donnybrook Fair, asked a more experienced fellow countryman for his fighting orders. He was in the dark as to the distinguishing friends from foes, and wanted some guide. The reply was short and explicit:

"Wherever you see a head, hit it."

Very good.
