DR. ABRAHAM GESNER, of Bedford avenue in this district delivered a very interesting address before the Geographical Society, in New York last evening, on the fisheries of North America, for which at the close he received a unanimous vote of thanks. The Dr., it appears, was once employed by the British Government, to make a geological survey of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, in which capacity he made a thorough examination of the fishing grounds. The Dr., in the course of his remarks, gave it as his opinion that the shad could be captured by hook and line if the fishermen were possessed of the secret as to the particular kind of shrimp which is its favorite food.
