Notes toward a poem to be titled either "Poem of the Woods" or "Poem of the Prairies,"
intended for a "Chicago edition" that never materialized. Any
relationship between this manuscript and Whitman's published work is
unknown. The notes are written on the back of a page from
Sartain's Magazine
, which
folded in 1852.
