A draft paragraph describing Whitman's time at Timber Creek, where he spent some restorative time in the mid- to late-1870s. Much of this draft first appeared in the 29 January 1881 issue of
The Critic
, as part of "How I Get Around at 60, and Take Notes. (No. 1)," under the section heading "Autumn Scenes and Sights." This piece of prose was slightly revised and eventually published as "Autumn Side-Bits," in
Specimen Days & Collect
(1882–1883) before appearing in
Complete Prose Works
(1892).
