The Critic
as part of "How I Get Around at 60, and Take Notes. (No. 1)," under the section heading "Autumn Scenes and Sights." Whitman further revised this prose piece before including it in
Specimen Days & Collect
(1882–1883) as part of "Autumn Side-Bits," which was later collected in
Complete Prose Works
(1892).
