  • 2. John Jay Knox (1828–1892) was appointed to the Treasury Department by Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase. On October 10, 1867, Knox became Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, and from 1872 to 1884 he served as Comptroller. [back]
