Walt Whitman to Sylvester Baxter, 2 June 1882

Dear Baxter

My friend John Sands,1 a veteran magazine & newspaper writer, has just sent a lengthy—but I think very meaty, & most readable—article, for the forthcoming Sunday paper, about me & mine—I am quite sure it will please your folks, if they give it immediate attention—I am well as usual—have received your Heralds with feeling & gratitude—

Best remembrances to Guernsey2 Walt Whitman

If printed send me three or four copies—

  • 1. "John Sands" was the pen name of William Hutchinson, a journalist. [back]
  • 2. The Boston Herald vigorously supported Whitman (see the letter from Whitman to William D. O'Connor of May 25, 1882). [back]
