Scholars of Eakins's work disagree about the nature of the difference between this and two other photographs (zzz.00124, zzz.00125)—whether they are different, retouched, and cropped versions of each other, varying prints, etc. Saunders catalogued them separately, and they seem to be distinct if very similar poses.
