Because we chose to include reviews of Whitman's work that quoted his poetry, this chart may overrepresent the use of Whitman's name in those reviews. Still, it seems clear at this point that his work did appear either unattributed or under other versions of his name a reasonable percentage of the time, which was common during the 19th century.
