Sir:
I am directed by the Attorney General to refer to you the within communication from the Secretary of War, and its enclosures relative to an action now pending in the Circuit Court of Monroe County, Wisconsin, against Wm. H. Farnham, Esq. for alleged false imprisonment, while acting under the orders of the Provost Marshal Gen'l., as Department Provost Marshal of said County. I am also directed to request that you conduct the defense of the defendant Farnham.
