Sir:

Your letter of May 16th requesting the appointment of Col. G. C. Wharton, as your assistant, has been accidentally overlooked. You are hereby authorised to employ that gentleman in the capacity named, at an annual compensation of Fifteen hundred dollars, ($1500)—commencing June 1st, 1866.
