Sir:
By direction of the Attorney General, I transmit you herewith a copy of a letter from the Secretary of the Treasury, dated Jan. 7th 1867, relative to a case of "a lot of about 1500 bales of cotton."
The Attorney General desires in accordance therewith, that you will consult with Mr. Titus, in relation to the suit, & make no compromise of the claim, unless so instructed from this office.
