U. S. Attorney

Memphis, Tenn.

Sir:

I am directed by the Attorney General to acknowledge the receipt of a letter dated 7th inst. addressed by you to the Solicitor of the Treasury, (& by him referred to this office;) relative to indictments for treason pending in your District.

In reply, you are hereby instructed to dismiss all the cases referred to, unless there be some exceptional one, which in your judgment, should be prosecuted. Such cases the Attorney Gen'l desires to be reported to him promptly.
