Sir:

I have the honor to transmit herewith the account, approved by me, & amounting to Five thousand four hundred and fifty dollars, ($5,450,—) of Wm. M. Evarts, for legal services & expenses in the matter of the Prosecution of Jefferson Davis & others for treason; & to request its payment out of the appropriate fund.
