January 7, 1868. Hon. O. P. Morton, U. S. Senator. Sir: The case of Rev. Mr. Smith, of Indiana, is now before the Attorney General for consideration. There is a legal question involved; but the great pressure of public business has thus far prevented the Attorney General from giving his opinion on the case.
