Sir:
In response to the inquiry of Hon. Caleb Cushing, through you, I enclose herewith a copy of the note of District Attorney Bugbee, under date of 15 July last, and also his abstract of the libel and proceeding had in the United States court for the Middle District of Alabama, for the condemnation of a certain piece of real estate, said to have been used for the purposes of the rebellion, and to have been the property of Colin J. McRae—which abstract was furnished in compliance with our instructions of the 10th July last, issued upon receipt of a letter of inquiry of the 6th July last, from Mr. Cushing.
No order for the dismissal of this prosecution has been issued from this office.
