Secretary of the Interior,

Sir:

By direction of the Attorney General, I transmit herewith the account, approved by him, and amounting to Twelve Hundred and fifty dollars, ($1250:) of Messrs. Haynes, Heath, & Lewis, for retainer as special counsel to assist the District Attorney in the case of "The United States, vs. a Lot of about 1500 Bales of Cotton," now pending in the Western District of Tennessee,— and for services rendered up to date; and to request its payment from the appropriate fund.
