Sir:

Your letter of the 19th instant respecting the appointment of yourself by the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, as his substitute while absent from his District, will this day be referred to the Secretary of the Interior, to whom, under the statute authorizing appointments of this character, the consideration of the subject appropriately belongs.
